Essay: Globalization

Introduction: Over the past few decades, with the dramatic development of the world, globalization has become an inevitable issue. Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology (Liang, 2004, P.4). And the impact of globalization, especial the impact to the certain fields which we concerned, is the most significant part of this issue. And the globalization process will effect on economic development, on international business, on culture and even on the mind of people. However, people would argue that it is the greatest event during the whole human history. It is generally agreed that globalization enhance the communication and cooperation of the world and make us not isolated. This essay will begin with the benefits and drawbacks of its effect on the world from three angles which are economy, business and culture. At the next section, it will indicate the benefits of globalization to the media field. It is impossible to avoid to talk about economic in any topics. The beginning of globalization is the combination of economic (Stephen Harper, 2006). Economic globalization started after the Second World War: trade contacts and mutual investments among developed countries gained great development, various international economic mechanism began to formulate, and a great many developing countries entered the international economic system, as a result, economies of different countries became inter-infiltration and interdependence, tending to be a whole(Fang Xianli, 2003). In the globalization trend, a prosperity never seen before appeared in the economic field of the world. More economic cooperation happened amount some countries and more rapidly economic increase appeared in this period. However, we cannot ignore that the higher economic risk is a concomitant of the economic globalization. Because the economic markets of each countries are affected by each other and once one market blow up the crisis others will be impacted on. International business is most close to our life which means we can get benefit from it every day. We know many multinational corporations include fast food companies McDonald's and KFC, vehicle manufacturers such as General Motors and Toyota, consumer electronics companies like LG and Sony, and energy companies such as ExxonMobil and BP. Most of the largest corporations operate in multiple national markets. Fortunately, because of these multinational corporations, consumers gain more choices when they choose products. It means we can get more suitable, graceful, and well-content products in the more reasonable prices. It is really a fantastic situation for consumers but on the other hand it may be a nightmare for the native business and workers. There is a present investigation suggest that multinational companies lead to a serious unemployment and big rap between richer and poor in china. And it also claim that the decade which these companies entered into china market is just the period which china suffered from the poverty, unemployment and wealth gap (Global entrepreneur,2003). When connected globalization to culture, different from the fields I mentioned before, there are often many opposed voices appeared on anywhere of the world. Many people believe that the drawbacks of cultural effects by Globalization are much more than the benefits and they even gave the culture globalization a new name “Cultural Imperialism” (David Rothkup, 1998). It is true that there are about 7000 different language in the world now and at least half of them will disappear in this century. In another words, today about 2800 kinds of language can be spoken by less than 2500 persons and a kind of language disappear every two weeks (David Harrison, 2007). We cannot deny that it is the results of globalization. However also we cannot ignore the positive impacts of it. Actually, the reason of why so many languages being disappearing is just the native speaker’s choices. They can get more benefits when they use the language which is more popular, and it will improve their life standard. So it can be say that it looks like the weakening of culture but the people get more real benefits. We want to protect the diversity of culture but we have no right to enforce others to give up themselves’ choices. The globalization brings an unprecedented uniform market to the world. Base on this market, media receive the unprecedented opportunity. Every fields, such as finance, manufacturing, education and so on, need the support of media when they develop the markets in any other counties. This offered a mass of job opportunity to media industry and encouraged more genius devoting into this field. It makes media industry full of inspirit (Cheng Jinglei, 2006). What is more, it enhance the culture communication and reach a mutual understanding between different countries. In another words, the globalizational media is a significant power to improve the peace of the world. However, we should also notice that like other industry globalizational media also bring some problem which is often very serious. In the worldwide opened environment, many multinational corporations occupied the market easily, so they have the power to engraft some concepts to the local people. Unfortunately, sometimes these concepts are not really fair so it makes people confused when they receive different information to the same topic. Conclusion: Globalization is a trend which nobody can prevent. And generally, most people can get benefit from it but we cannot ignore the negative impacts of it. And the most important issue is we should support the globalization and reduce the drawbacks of it.

summary of the seminar

The seminar which we took yesterday is about crime and surveillance. Crime and privacy are connected by the science and technology. You can notice the sign of CCTV whole around the city, and then you will see a camera is staring at you. Recently the argument about CCTV is a warm issue in UK. In our class, most people think the amount of CCTV in UK is ok but we should not continue to setting more CCTV in public areas. In my opinion, the CCTV is a little bit much but it is not necessary to remove some of them. At the end of the seminar, most people agree with that the biometrics is the most useful way to prevent and beat crime. In my point of veiw, biometrics is much more credible and efficient than to establish the DNA database. What is more, unlike CCTV the biometrics will not break the daily life of people. And it is only can be used to protect people from crime.

Oh Gosh! The summary is losed!

The seminar summary which I have just writen is losed. I must write it again. T_T.....

Seminar reflection

How good was I? 2, thinking enough but speaking little Had I done enough research and preparation? 2or3,reading many articles about technology and security; watching some vedio about this topic; asking some question about this on the net; thinking the pros and cons of either side. Did I speak enough during the seminar? 1, I just spoke a little and only express a bit of my thinking. Was I a good listener? 2or3, I tried my best to listen anybody's point on the seminar and some of them offer me good elicitation. Did I argue my opinion clearly? 2, I expressed a part of my view point Did I give reasons, examples and evidence to support my opinions? 1, I did not give some evidence to support my opinions, although I read some good examples before. Did I ask relevant questions to other people? 1, This is the point which I should notice at. Frequently I have some questions about the speaker's subject, but I did not ask it out. Was the language I used accurate? 2, I think it is ok. Had I prepared the language I needed before the seminar? 2or3, Yes, I prepared many words which can be used in this seminar and I reviewed some sentences which is very useful in argument. relative clause

For me, relative clause is one of the most difficult part of grammar. There are tow point which I think is difficult for me. One is the difference between 'which' and 'that' and the other is how to distinguish the non-defining and defining relative clause. After the class and homework, I can distinguish it easily. If the relative clause been removed and the sentence can express the meaning clearly, it is the non-defining. For instance,There was only one park in this town. Someone has built over it. We used to play in the park when we were kids. So we can write a sentencs as 'The local park, where we palyed as kids, has been built over'. Because there is only one park in this town, we can understand exactly which park has been built over.

Visiting to The Tate Modern

This afternoon, I went to The Tate Modern with Roy and some schoolmates. Tate Modern is a huge art gallery which exhibit full of the modern art. The building of Tate Modern is very special, because it is changed from a power station. We can see a high chimney stand next to it. In my mind, art can not be understand clearly by most of the contemporary people. So we can understand the painting by Van Gogh or Da Vinci but we can not understand what Picasso or Salvador Dali want to express by their art. If we watch a movie and we know what it said, it is a film. But if we do not know what it said, it is art. For me, London is art which is beautiful but cannot be understand easily. Each traditional building in London is the a artwork and a story.

The Late Introduction

I do not know the deadline. So I did not send it to my blog as well as the teacher's email yesterday. This is my work: From TV, can you get the fact of who killed the president Kennedy? It is generally agreed that the things showed on TV is far from the reality. TV is business, so one of the main purposes is reaping profit. To chase this purpose the TV corporation must produce more attractive programme for the audiences. So the reality will be ignored when it is not suit for the taste of the audience. What is more, TV is politics, so TV will be effect by the government. Much content may be rejected by the reason of national security. At the same time, some unreal content may be played on the TV by the same reason, as the Star War Program in 1980’s. So this essay will give an overview of the lie on TV and the reason.

Visit The British Museum

This is my first blog in English. Mostly I write blog just for fun, but this time I should write something about studying. Yesterday I went to The British Museum which exhibits so many interesting collections. As soon as I entered the museum, I was shocked by the building. I was amazing that such a huge building with so many exquisite details. Ancient Egypt collection is one of the most famous part in The British Museum. Ancient Egypt is so mysterious to me that visiting such amount of collections from Egypt made me happy. This is my first time to see a real Mummy, a little bit fearful. London is a big city with a long history. In my mind , "HISTORY" means "his story", so listening the storys and learning the history are interesting things.
