Essay: Globalization

Introduction: Over the past few decades, with the dramatic development of the world, globalization has become an inevitable issue. Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology (Liang, 2004, P.4). And the impact of globalization, especial the impact to the certain fields which we concerned, is the most significant part of this issue. And the globalization process will effect on economic development, on international business, on culture and even on the mind of people. However, people would argue that it is the greatest event during the whole human history. It is generally agreed that globalization enhance the communication and cooperation of the world and make us not isolated. This essay will begin with the benefits and drawbacks of its effect on the world from three angles which are economy, business and culture. At the next section, it will indicate the benefits of globalization to the media field. It is impossible to avoid to talk about economic in any topics. The beginning of globalization is the combination of economic (Stephen Harper, 2006). Economic globalization started after the Second World War: trade contacts and mutual investments among developed countries gained great development, various international economic mechanism began to formulate, and a great many developing countries entered the international economic system, as a result, economies of different countries became inter-infiltration and interdependence, tending to be a whole(Fang Xianli, 2003). In the globalization trend, a prosperity never seen before appeared in the economic field of the world. More economic cooperation happened amount some countries and more rapidly economic increase appeared in this period. However, we cannot ignore that the higher economic risk is a concomitant of the economic globalization. Because the economic markets of each countries are affected by each other and once one market blow up the crisis others will be impacted on. International business is most close to our life which means we can get benefit from it every day. We know many multinational corporations include fast food companies McDonald's and KFC, vehicle manufacturers such as General Motors and Toyota, consumer electronics companies like LG and Sony, and energy companies such as ExxonMobil and BP. Most of the largest corporations operate in multiple national markets. Fortunately, because of these multinational corporations, consumers gain more choices when they choose products. It means we can get more suitable, graceful, and well-content products in the more reasonable prices. It is really a fantastic situation for consumers but on the other hand it may be a nightmare for the native business and workers. There is a present investigation suggest that multinational companies lead to a serious unemployment and big rap between richer and poor in china. And it also claim that the decade which these companies entered into china market is just the period which china suffered from the poverty, unemployment and wealth gap (Global entrepreneur,2003). When connected globalization to culture, different from the fields I mentioned before, there are often many opposed voices appeared on anywhere of the world. Many people believe that the drawbacks of cultural effects by Globalization are much more than the benefits and they even gave the culture globalization a new name “Cultural Imperialism” (David Rothkup, 1998). It is true that there are about 7000 different language in the world now and at least half of them will disappear in this century. In another words, today about 2800 kinds of language can be spoken by less than 2500 persons and a kind of language disappear every two weeks (David Harrison, 2007). We cannot deny that it is the results of globalization. However also we cannot ignore the positive impacts of it. Actually, the reason of why so many languages being disappearing is just the native speaker’s choices. They can get more benefits when they use the language which is more popular, and it will improve their life standard. So it can be say that it looks like the weakening of culture but the people get more real benefits. We want to protect the diversity of culture but we have no right to enforce others to give up themselves’ choices. The globalization brings an unprecedented uniform market to the world. Base on this market, media receive the unprecedented opportunity. Every fields, such as finance, manufacturing, education and so on, need the support of media when they develop the markets in any other counties. This offered a mass of job opportunity to media industry and encouraged more genius devoting into this field. It makes media industry full of inspirit (Cheng Jinglei, 2006). What is more, it enhance the culture communication and reach a mutual understanding between different countries. In another words, the globalizational media is a significant power to improve the peace of the world. However, we should also notice that like other industry globalizational media also bring some problem which is often very serious. In the worldwide opened environment, many multinational corporations occupied the market easily, so they have the power to engraft some concepts to the local people. Unfortunately, sometimes these concepts are not really fair so it makes people confused when they receive different information to the same topic. Conclusion: Globalization is a trend which nobody can prevent. And generally, most people can get benefit from it but we cannot ignore the negative impacts of it. And the most important issue is we should support the globalization and reduce the drawbacks of it.
